A standard hospital bed has a 350 lb. weight capacity.  A Phoenix bariatric Bed has a 350 to 1000 lb weight capacity. A standard hospital bed has two motors:  one for the head section and one for the leg section; Bariatric Beds are fully electric, 3-motor high low models. Bariatric Beds come standard with half-rails and a Bariatric Mattress.  If you want to upgrade to a "better" mattress; or a Latexpedic Latex Foam Mattress; or a mattress with an optional gel pad . . . there are many mattress options. There are many manufacturers of Phoenix Bariatric Beds:  Tuffcare, Transfer Master, Invacare, Drive, Burke-Bariatric, Big-Boyz, Wheelchairs of Kansas (WOK), and more.  Bariatric Mattress manufacturers include: Span America, Blue Chip and Volkner. If you don't need the 3rd motor (high low, up and down), you may want to consider an adjustable bed that may have a standard 750 lb. weight capacity. If you are disabled, you may want to consider the Bariatric Beds that have Trendellenburg and Reverse Trendellenburg. If you are disabled, you may want to consider an air, rotating mattress.
